Josh Putnam's Cycling Links
This is not any sort of a definitive list of cycling sites on the
web. It's a list of sites that I find interesting, useful, or fun.
It doesn't include mail order companies,
since I've already listed them , nor does it include
frame building suppliers, since I have a separate list of them, too.
If you know that I like your site but you don't find it here, feel free to
remind me, I probably just didn't think of it while writing this page.
General Cycling Sites
- The Cyberider, probably the
most comprehensive index of on-line cycling information, gradually recovering
from an extremely malicious hacker attack that destroyed a truly
monumental collection of cycling knowledge.
- Sheldon Brown's
bicycle page, an excellent on-line reference site.
- Pete's BikIndex, a huge set of
cycling links of all sorts.
- Bike Culture Quarterly, a journal
that includes a lot of what the mainstream glossies leave out: cycling
as transportation; cycling history, art, and fiction; alternative bicycle
designs. Well worth the cost of a subscription.
- The Bicycling Community Page
serving Madison, Wisconsin, has an excellent set of
links to other pages,
- Kevin Karplus's
Bikes and Transit page, with all sorts of information on cycling as
transportation, transportation planning, road designs, cycling laws, etc.
Puget Sound & Vicinity
Mailing Lists
- bikelist.org is a free site
hosting a growing array of cycling lists, including:
- Touring,
an international mailing list for bicycle touring enthusiasts.
- Framebuilders,
a list for framebuilders of any stripe, amateur or professional,
upright or recumbent, of any skill level, including interested
neophytes.
-
Internet-BOB, home to retrogrouches, utilitarian cyclists, and
collectors. The name comes from the old Bridgestone Owners Bunch, and
has nothing to do with trailers.
- KidBike,
discussing cycling with children of any age, and sometimes other issues of
family cycling and cycling with less-experienced or less-enthusiastic
riders in the group.
- IHPVA.org's Mailing Lists
including lists dedicated to Human Powered Vehicles in general, HPV boats,
HPV work bikes, HPV trikes, and an HPV Forsale list that's a great spot
to look for used recumbents or components.
Personal Cycling Pages
- Judy Colwell is an
institution on the touring list, an entertaining dinner guest, and an
incredibly open, warm-hearted, funny, and friendly person. She also happens
to ride long bicycle tours with rocks in her panniers, and has an
undeserved reputation for causing rain when she rides. (In her defense,
it rains no harder on Vashon Island when she's riding here than when she's
in California.)
- Ken Kifer's
Bike Pages
- Chuck Anderson's CycleTourist.com
web site, with some good touring writeups, road pictures, and more.
- Jim Foreman's Favorite
Stories, a collection of cycling tales, flying stories, excerpts from
Jim's Armadillo Pie cookbook, etc.
Others
- The Trento Bike
Pages archive personal touring reports for Europe and beyond.
- Fixed Innovations, home of the
innovative adjustable axle for using fixed gears on frames with vertical
dropouts.
- The HPV Home Page, for people who don't
limit their cycling to traditional bicycles. Includes recumbent cycles,
rail bikes, human-powered boats and aircraft, etc. If a person makes it
move, it's here.
- Wheel
Wizard, a free on-line spoke length calculator with a somewhat
outdated database of hubs and rims.
