For Sale: 1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

800 x 534

This car gets 50mpg on the highway and 40mpg in the city while being larger, more comfortable, more powerful and fun to drive than a hybrid. It is very reliable. In the last 10,000 miles it has had the timing belt replaced, a new windshield (OEM glass) and tires (Michelin MVX4+ Energy Plus), and all other routine service (mostly from Golf/Jetta service on Roosevelt). The car includes a Thule roof rack, Bentley and Haynes service manuals, and a spare fuel filter.

It is dark metallic green with a beige interior and a power sunroof. There is a Kenwood CD player installed and the original stock radio/tape deck is included too. There are monster matts (rubber floor matts) that are in good condition front and rear. The interior is very clean and shows little wear. 3 remotes (2 are almost brand new) and 2 keys are included.

It runs great on regular diesel or biodiesel. Biodiesel is made from vegetable oil, is currently available in Ballard and Bellevue, burns cleaner, is great for the engine, and contains no petroleum products.

I'm selling because I found a nice VW Golf TDI and wanted a hatchback. I love TDIs (my wife also has one) and would drive nothing else available on the market today.

Specifics:

  • Dark Metallic Green exterior
  • Beige cloth interior
  • 5sp manual transmission
  • Sunroof
  • About 95,000 miles
  • Kenwood CD player (or original tape deck if you prefer that)
  • Monster matts (rubber floor matts) front and rear
  • Bentley and Haynes service manuals included.
  • Thule roof rack that mounts to the OEM roof rack mounts.

Recent service:

  • Timing belt replaced at 85,000 miles (along with all other major service work such as fuel filter change, oil change, etc).
  • New tires installed at 90,000 miles (Michelin MVX4 Plus).
  • Last oil change was 250 miles ago (at 95,000 miles). I've always used have used Mobil Delvac 1 sythentic oil.
  • Upsolute chip upgrade at 88,000 miles (I have the original chip and can put it back if desired). This increased the engine output to about 115hp and 190ft lbs of torque.
  • Transmission fluid changed around 88,000 miles (replaced with Redline MTL)
  • Windshield replaced at about 91,000 miles (the replacement is OEM glass).

Known defects:

  • There is a dent in the trunk, just above the rear bumper.
  • There is a dent on the right rear fender.

I'd like to get $7500 or best offer. Email alex@phred.org if you have more questions or would like to see the car in person. I'm located in Seattle near the University of Washington.
