New Zealand 2002 - Christchurch

Our trip started in Christchurch. Christchurch is the
largest city on the South Island. It has a compact downtown which is
surrounded by small neighborhoods with detached houses and central
shopping. There are parks everywhere. The city is flat but has
hills around it, one of which has a Gondola with great views from the top.

Arts Centre

Christchurch has a large Arts Centre which is located at the site of an old University. It is full of galleries, studios, studio/galleries (where the artists work in their gallery space), theaters, a cinema, and resturants.

Botanical Gardens
| Across the street from the Arts Centre is the cities bontanical gardens. They are very large and very well kept. | ||

Wildlife Cruise
| On our way out of New Zealand we stopped back in Christchurch for one last day. We spent the afternoon going on a Wildlife Cruise in one of the nearby harbors. The highlight was seeing the very small (and hard to photograph) Hector's Dolphins. |
