Wow -- thanks very much for starting this blog, Alex. I''ve been wanting to try my hand at these kinds of rides, but despite several years of doing thousands of miles of road rides in the area I really have not understood how to get started on unpaved roads (I know, get a map, trial and error, etc...). There seem to be lots of places to find mountain bike trails, but this kind of "rough stuff" riding has been hard for me to figure out.

Great excuse to buy another bike!

Cool, I didn''t know about that hack. That is a little easier than the GPS Visualizer stuff that I''ve been using.

Nice write-up! Thanks for the information -- this looks like a great ride. I may need to try it this week.

BTW -- there''s an easy trick that enables Google Maps to display any URL-accessible GPX file. See http://keithmo.blogspot.com/2010/03/fun-and-games-with-google-maps-and-gpx.html for details.

For example, the GPX file you reference above can be displayed in Google Maps as: http://goo.gl/s3HR

Thanks again!
